I’ve read Nick Russell’s blog for years and knew how Nick raves about his wife’s cooking, so I was curious about her recipes. Wow, was I happy I bought her cookbook. She has recipes for good, old-fashioned comfort foods. Foods your momma used to make. This cookbook gives you much more than recipes though. Miss Terry includes an inventory of the spices she carries as well as the baking and cooking items she has in her motorhome. This is wonderful information for upcoming RVers who wonder what to carry in their kitchen. I’m excited to try the pizza and cinnamon rolls her husband talks about so much. Highly recommend this cookbook to any cook looking for good down home recipes and especially to RVers with limited storage and preparation areas. If Miss Terry can cook these recipes in her motorhome so can I.

I’ve been reading Miss Terry’s husband’s blog for a long time because they are sort of my full-timing, longtime RV heroes. I discovered their publication, The Gypsy Journal, and Nick Russell’s blog not long after we got our first RV. A lot of people live full time in their RVs and have no other home, but not many of them do it as long as the Russells and make a living while they are at it, too. I’ve never met them in person, but they have been an inspiration just the same.

Some of Nick’s past work led me to decide Terry Russell is one of the strongest and best women in the industry. She hasn’t always had it easy out on road and faced many of the same trials others have, but in a lifestyle that had to make it a bit more difficult. Basically, she’s a trooper. Her husband is a prolific writer and has several titles on the Kindle bestseller list, but I think this is her first book – and it’s a treat.

Often Nick blogs (brags) about what Miss Terry cooks for him. Her pizza is legendary, and long before I knew about this book, I kept thinking maybe I’d write and ask for the recipe. I was happy to find that famous pizza recipe (and lots of ways to vary it) included in her book. I can’t wait to try it and all the others! I not only coveted her recipes but also wondered how the heck she manages to turn out such gourmet dishes in her motorhome kitchen. I figured she must be very organized. Turns out she is! (She weaves in her motorhome, too, but some people, even though sweet as honey like Miss Terry, are just overachievers and can’t help it!) In addition to the recipes, she has offered so much of how she organizes and stocks her kitchen.

Make no mistake. This isn’t just a book of recipes. It is a book that contains cooking information not found in an ordinary recipe book. It lists what she keeps on hand in her kitchen, her go-to items, and lots, lots more good stuff. She even reveals the pots, pans, tools, utensils and appliances she carries to produce her great dishes. I found I’m doing at least one thing right. She carries cast iron skillets! Sweet validation – I’m not crazy for toting those heavy things all over the country – because Miss Terry does it, too! There are even lists of the spices, ordinary and not-so-ordinary (exotic, to me) she keeps in her kitchen – and how to store them! I love this book. It will be traveling on my Kindle in our RV and back home to my stick kitchen, too.

Thank you, Miss Terry, for sharing. I’ve been waiting for this book and it’s well worth the price. Anyone who loves to cook OR eat is going to love it. Mr. Burt is probably going to gain a few pounds and blame it on your book.
